FORT WAYNE – Ohio-based fiber carrier Everstream says it is investing $47 million this year to expand its business-only network in seven Midwest cities, including Fort Wayne and South Bend.

The company says the expansion is needed as it connects more than 2,000 macro cell towers throughout the Midwest. The towers are used by wireless carriers that are building out their 5G networks.

Everstream says it provides high-capacity fiber from the core network to cell towers at 100 Gbps.

“Demand for 5G services is just beginning and will require high-capacity fiber networks to support this growth,” said Everstream President and Chief Executive Officer Brett Lindsey. “By architecting and building new fiber networks in these markets, we will help support the 5G initiatives of wireless carriers and serve enterprises for years to come.”

The company says it plans in install more than 1,000 miles of fiber this year with nearly 100 miles in both Fort Wayne and South Bend.

Everstream says it is also expanding fiber routes in Lexington, Louisville, Cincinnati, Dayton and Toledo.
